Irrigation Services
highest quality systems
Firman Irrigation & Landscape Lighting is the premier irrigation and landscape lighting company in northern Michigan. Our staff, through training and experience, truly understand what it takes to install and maintain a sprinkler system so that it will use the least amount of water and produce a healthy landscape. Our owner is a certified irrigation designer and contractor through the Irrigation Association. A few of our technicians are also certified irrigation contractors
What we do
Our Irrigation Services

- Activate the system by turning on the water or installing the pump and intake line and priming it.
- Inspect the plumbing and electrical that we can see.
- Inspect every zone and every head, ensuring the heads are adjusted properly. We will note problems we see that will need to be addressed in the future, such as dry areas or areas that no longer need water, etc.
- We will check the drip lines to the best of our ability. We will also clean the drip filter if we know where it is located.
- We will activate the controller and set it up for June weather. If we start the system early, we may leave the controller off until the weather warms up. We will also test the rain sensor.
- We will make recommendations for improvements that we see are needed.

- Check through all the zones, ensuring there are no leaks, and the heads are adjusted correctly. We identify and adjust any areas that are too wet or dry.
- We will adjust the controller schedule as needed (the run times will need to be adjusted as temperatures change)
- We will make recommendations for improvements and repairs as needed.

During irrigation winterizations, we shut down the system for the winter to prevent pipes and other components from freezing and cracking. During this process we will shut down the system’s controller, blow any water out from the system, and make note of any damage that will need to be addressed the following spring.

Your sprinkler system will be installed using only the highest quality products and will have a minimal impact on your existing landscape and trees. Our designer is also a certified arborist, so you can rest assured that your trees will not be damaged in the process. Your sprinkler system will be designed to use the minimum about of water possible by separating sunny areas from the shade, grass from the lawn, slopes from flat areas, etc. This is much better for your lawn and landscape since overwatering can be just as bad as under watering. You will also be provided with a drawing of your sprinkler system upon completion.
Our Installation Process
Site evaluation
Our office staff will schedule a meeting for a salesman to visit the property and collect information to create a free quote. Once completed, he will email the quote for review.
Proposal approval and scheduling
If the quote is approved, the office will schedule a time for the crew to install the system.
Installation and programming
We will install the system professionally and efficiently, ensuring as little disruption to the property as possible. Upon completion, a technician will program the controller and thoroughly test the system. He will also show the customer how to control the system and give any recommendations
Asbuilt documentation
The foreman will create a map of the system to document the layout and key components. This drawing will help technicians in the future perform any repairs or modifications.
Ongoing maintenance
We will email a service agreement proposal offering our yearly services including spring startup, monitorings, and a winterization. If the proposal is accepted, we will continue to maintain the system as long as the client accepts the yearly contract. We will also perform service calls to troublesoot issues as needed.

In addition to our standard services, we also offer on-demand service calls. If any repairs or modifications are required, our office will coordinate with you to schedule a qualified technician to handle the work promptly and efficiently.
